Celebrating Volunteering + Equality Diversity and Inclusion 2023-24

This academic year has seen a huge rise in students volunteering to help organise college events. Together, we planned activities for lots of different things, such as Mental Health Awareness, fundraising for charities, LGBT+ recognition, combating racism and celebrating the amazing diversity of our students and staff.

Some of the amazing things students volunteered for this year include:

Restart a Heart Day - 229 students volunteered throughout the day to learn how to deliver lifesaving CPR.

Time To Talk Day - 171 students came along to the Hive to set up and take part in different activities focussing on breaking down the stigma of mental health.

Culture Day - 20 students formed a committee to plan an action-packed day that celebrated the variety of cultures within Connell. Over 90% of students then attended that event and the feedback we received was phenomenal!

Connell Channel Crossing Challenge - The whole college, staff and students alike, took part in rowing, running, walking and cycling to collectively ‘cross the English Channel.’ We did this in aid of one of our students undergoing treatment for cancer at The Christie. And we raised over £1000.

Our Sport Department continued their partnership with Manchester City Football Club which saw students volunteer to lead, referee and coach primary school and disability events at City’s training ground. We look forward to continuing this partnership and providing more opportunities for our students to volunteer next year.

Other events we ran that students set-up, planned and volunteered for: Christmas Craft Fair, LGBT+ fundraising bake-sale and World African Heritage Day.

So a huge congratulations and thanks to all of our fantastic students who said yes to opportunities this academic year!
