Getting to Connell

There’s limited parking at Connell (access via Wilson Street, use M11 2AZ for sat navs). You can also park at the East Manchester Leisure Centre, and walk across Alan Turing Way to our main entrance. Our nearest Metrolink stop is Velopark (approx five minute walk), and there are bus stops on Alan Turing Way and Ashton Old Road.

Queuing

You may be queuing to get into enrol, so please bring an umbrella in case it rains. We'll try to keep the queues moving as quickly as possible, but due to the number of students enrolling each day, there may be bottlenecks. To avoid this, please ensure you attend enrolment on the day and time you've been allocated, as we have spaced students out across the two days. Once you’ve signed in, you’ll get the opportunity to have some refreshments and sit down before continuing the enrolment process.

We can’t wait to see you at enrolment and officially welcome you to Connell.

FAQs

What are the key enrolment dates?

  • GCSE results day: Thursday 22 August.

  • Pre-accepted places: The dates to enrol for those with pre-accepted places will be on either Thursday 22 August or Friday 23 August. Depending on your course, you may be invited in on the Thursday or Friday.

  • Open enrolment process: We will be open for walk-in enrolment on Tuesday 27 August from 9am to 12pm. Please note that many of our courses will be full, but we'll work with you to try to find a suitable course. New applicants are welcome to attend. Please check our course list and entry requirements. You will need to bring your full GCSE statement of results  and be prepared to be with us for up to two hours.

What happens if I don’t get the grades I need for my chosen course?

You might not be able to enrol on that course, but if you achieve our minimum requirements, please come to enrolment anyway. Please be aware that if you need to change from an A Level to a BTEC course, you will need to come to the Friday enrolment.

How long does enrolment take?

It should take about two hours.

Can I bring family/friends to enrolment?

If you could try to limit it to one person - ideally one of your next of kin - as the building is very busy.

I am away over the enrolment days, can I still enrol?

If you are away on one of the days, we may be able to enrol you on the other day - please email us (admissions@connell.ac.uk) as soon as you know, and we can see if this is possible for you. Unfortunately, we are not able to save spaces for any students who are away on the enrolment days, unless there are exceptional circumstances (please note that holidays are not exceptional circumstances unfortunately).

I have my GCSE results on my phone, is this okay?

Ideally, we need you to bring in the paper statement so we can take a copy. If your school emailed them to you, we will need to see the official statement on your phone and you will need to print it out when you get here as part of the process.

What ID can I bring?

We accept UK passports, UK provisional driving licences, UK or BOTC birth certificates. We also accept UK residency permits with indefinite leave to remain. If you do not have any of these, please get in touch with us before enrolment and we can advise you what else you can use as ID. We can only accept an EU passport if you moved to the UK before December 2020.

My passport has expired, can I still bring it?

Yes, an expired passport is fine as we can still read your name and date of birth.

Who are my next of kin?

Next of kin are usually a parent or carer. We’re legally required to have two contacts for our students. If you do not have two parents or carers that we can use, you can use any family member over the age of 18 who lives in the UK, or a friend or neighbour over the age of 18, who you would like us to contact in case of emergency.

What details do I need for my next of kin?

We need their name, relationship to you, phone number and email address.

When is the first day of term?

All students must attend college on Friday 6 September for induction. Classes will start on Monday 9 September.

I will be away for the start of term, what do I do?

If you have an exceptional circumstance meaning you'll miss Friday 6 September for induction or classes starting on Monday 9 September, you will need to tell us at enrolment.

What do I need to buy for college?

We provide a starting stationery kit and laptops are provided for students without access to them.
