FILM STUDIES
You will study a wide range of films across a variety of cultures, time periods and genres. You’ll discover how high-quality narratives are developed and showcased using visual techniques and theory.
The course involves investigations of how cinema has developed from its inception in the 1800s through to the present day.
Throughout the course you will study a selection of films which will help you to explore the ways in which directors have created meaning for their audiences. If you are interested in film-making, photography or even creative writing, then Film Studies is the course for you.

HOW YOU’LL STUDY
You’ll develop practical production skills and work towards creating your own piece of film, building on knowledge and understanding developed through your studies. Alongside this, you will develop long-form written analysis of famous directors and auteurs to find out how they became so iconic.
CAREERS AND DESTINATIONS
Students who study Film Studies at A Level usually go to university to study Media Studies, Film,
TV Production or English. There are also options in degree-level apprenticeships in the creative industries. Film Studies students typically wish to work in industries such as film, TV or journalism.
